His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy, praised the role of His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister, in accelerating the electricity connection with fraternal Iraq , which comes as an affirmation of ongoing cooperation in all fields, especially technical fields. It also expresses the desire of the two countries to consolidate economic relations between them, in so as to realize the aspirations of the leaders and peoples of the two countries, and to ensure the rapid implementation of the project on the ground.
His Highness indicated that the completion of this project falls within the framework of the Kingdom 2030 vision and its executive programs, which focus on investing in the Kingdom’s strategic location and the nature of the Saudi power grid, which is the largest in the Middle East and the Arab world, to make the Kingdom a regional center for the connection of electricity grids.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Republic of Iraq and the electricity interconnection project is the result of one studio complete and detailed carried out by team joint technician between the two parties Optimize energy to produce electricity, support the absorption of electricity grids to enter renewable energy and achieve optimal investments in electricity generation projects.
In addition to what the two countries will reap from the fruits of this project, the electricity interconnection works between the Kingdom and Iraq will be a step to strengthen the opportunity to establish a regional market for electricity trading and support the participation of two countries to it.
It should be noted that the signing of the minutes takes place in implementation of the provisions of the memorandum of understanding in on the electrical interconnection, in the necessary procedures relating to the conclusion of the electricity interconnection agreements between the Saudi Electricity Company and the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity represented by the General Electricity Transmission Company / Central Region in Iraq has completed the electrical interconnection between the two sides, which will connect Arar and Yusufiya near Baghdad, with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts and a voltage of 400 kilovolts, with a length of approximately 435 km.
