The Minister of Sport launches a strategy to support Saudi sports federations and a program for the development of elite athletes

His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sport and President of the Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia, today launched a strategy to support Saudi sports federations with a budget of two billion and 600 million Saudi riyals under the quality of life program.

On this occasion, His Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Keeper of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense – may God keep them – for the great interest and support they attribute to the Sports sector in the Kingdom have contributed greatly to placing the Kingdom among the ranks of the advanced sports countries on a world level.

His Highness stated in a press release: “In light of this unprecedented support from our wise leadership, and the following and interest from His Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi sport has moved forward globally, the the latest of which was winning the Asian Games of 2034 for the first time in Kingdom history, as well as an increase in the number of Saudi sports federations from 32 in 2015 to 91 sports federations, committees and associations in the year in course, and today we are entering in a new phase by developing a global strategy focused on the development of sports federations in various games and creating a sports generation in able to compete in various competitions, games and sports, to elevate the name of the Kingdom – God willing – in major regions and international forums.

For his part, His Highness Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, Vice President of the Saudi Olympic Committee, expressed his pride in launching this strategy and the great interest that the sports sector receives from our wise leadership – may God protect it. -, and his results in terms of sporting results, commending in this regard the Minister of Sport and President of the Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal for his daily and accurate monitoring and his constant passion for various sports and games.

His Highness added: “The main objective of the strategy is to provide a favorable environment for the federations to achieve the desired goal in terms of administrative and technical development and support federations to achieve their national and international goals, in particular as the Kingdom, God willing, is about to participate in many tournaments in the next period “.

The strategy aims to develop the sports sector in general and organizing the work of sports federations, as well as creating an infrastructure to support sports federations and increasing the contribution of sport to GDP by 0.8%, in order to increase the percentage of sports practice community to 40% by 2030.

The federations get this support according to a series of criteria: develop the game, increase the number of players, compete in regional and international tournaments, promoting sports tourism, increasing the popularity of the game in the Kingdom, as well as contributing to the promotion of the Kingdom’s culture, heritage and national economy, as well as creating a range of opportunities Diversified investments.

The funding provided to the unions is divided in two parts: the first is the core financing, which is the support provided to cover the core activities of the unions, including operating costs, fields and salaries, and the second section is the catalyst financing, which is bundles of funds to reward trade unions for their development and results, based on three requirements to be achieved: the first is operational capacity, which means the federation’s strategy, objectives, organization and governance, the second is technical capacity in terms of strength and number of tournaments and the extent of the development of human skills technically and administratively.

The strategy also includes a number of incentives for federations once their players earn medals, as follows:

Olympic and Paralympic Games: (one million riyals for the gold medal), (500,000 riyals for the silver medal), (250,000 riyals for the bronze medal), plus 100,000 riyals in change of qualification.

World Championships: (500,000 riyals for the gold medal), (250,000 riyals for the silver medal), (125,000 riyals for the bronze medal),

Youth Olympic Games: (200,000 riyals for the gold medal), 100,000 riyals for the silver medal, (50,000 riyals for the bronze medal), plus 25,000 riyals for the qualification.

The Asian Games, the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and the Asian Beach Games: (240,000 riyals for the gold medal), (120,000 riyals for the silver medal), (60,000 riyals for the bronze medal) .

Asian Youth Championships: (50,000 riyals for the gold medal), (40,000 riyals for the silver medal), (30,000 riyals for the bronze).

Islamic Solidarity Games: (180,000 riyals for the gold medal), (90,000 riyals for the silver medal), (45,000 riyals for the bronze medal), and the Federation gets 50,000 riyals in exchange of record national and 300,000 riyals in the event of the achievement of a goal Increase community sports participation.

His Highness the President of the Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia also announced the launch of the Elite Athlete Development Program in its new form, which aims to improve the efficiency and preparation of athletes in the long term, implement a style of healthy life and an ideal style, in as well as achieving excellence in many sports internationally, and create a suitable high-performance environment according to the most important standard and international sports theories.

The idea of ​​the program revolves around the creation of a sports center under the supervision of the Olympic Committee of Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with a number of sports federations, and the use of coaches and experts to improve performance and renovate facilities, and to achieve a realistic and immediate impact on the level of Saudi sports.

The program includes three main phases: creation of the Saudi Olympic Training Center as an independent body managed under the supervision of the Saudi Olympic Committee, improvement of results and performance, achievement of the advanced stages of the Olympic and Asian Games, preparation of a sustainable network of athletes elite, and benefiting from investment and competition opportunities in the final stages of the Asian and Olympic Games.

Interestingly, elite players will be selected after reviewing their levels from 2018 until today, to include elite players and promising elite players, as 180 elite athletes are targeted in the first year of the year. initiative, to reach 480 male and female players by 2023.
