The Moroccan monarch is discussing the Sahara dossier with Guterres

The Moroccan monarch, King Mohammed VI, discussed the Western Sahara dossier with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in a rare meeting held on Wednesday in Rabat. The royal court stated in A statement: Guterres, who visited the Kingdom to participate in the “Ninth Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations” in the city of Fez (northeast), met with King Mohammed VI in his palace in Rabat.

He added that during the meeting, the Moroccan monarch “reaffirmed Morocco’s firm position to resolve this regional dispute on the basis of the autonomy initiative within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the kingdom”. For his part, the United Nations said in a statement that “the Secretary-General and His Majesty the King discussed the situation in the region, in particularly in Western Sahara”. In its statement, the international organization did not provide further details.

In its statement, the Royal Court said: The Moroccan monarch renewed “the kingdom’s support for the efforts of the Secretary-General and his personal envoy, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, to guide this political file, as well as for the MINURSO mission to monitor ceasefire”.
