ForwardKeys, an airline ticket database, analyzed non-destinations in based on the total number of visitors, but in based on their growth since 2019, the year before the pandemic, to show which ones performed best over the past 12 months.
According to data from ForwardKeys, the Dominican Republic was the country with the best performance for 2022, receiving more visitors questyear, with a 5% increase over 2019. 5% may not seem like much, but considering we’re still recovering from the pandemic, that’s an impressive level of growth.
In second place was Turkey, which managed to maintain the same levels as in 2019, followed by Costa Rica and Mexico, which achieved the same performance also in 2019.
Here are the 10 countries with the best performance quest’year in terms of number of visitors and percentage change compared to 2019:

Many countries ranked well not because they had more visitors than in 2019, but simply because they haven’t lost as many tourists as other countries. Even though the pandemic may be over, the travel industry is still far from fully recovering.
On Tuesday, the head of the United Nations World Tourism Organization revealed that global tourism has recovered 70% of its pre-pandemic levels.
