The Most Hated Movie Characters of All Time

Everyone can’t like every person. Some characters are made to be purposely disliked, like villains or obstacles that the heroes keep running into. Other characters are disliked just for being who they are. It’s not that the filmmakers went out of their way to make someone so horrible; these creations have almost become sentient and taken control of the ship because so many people hate them.

Some characters make people hate them for different reasons, some of which are fair and some of which are not. In some ways, fans might go too far with their hatred and must be told to stop acting badly. Still, there has been a lot of talk about some of the characters. These are the movie characters that people hate the most.

Captain Marvel (MCU)

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is on this list, but there’s a big catch: a lot of the hate against her comes from fake places and is part of a campaign to harass her online. Hatred for Captain Marvel started when Brie Larson talked about representation in film criticism, which she should have done. However, some online spaces took this as a personal attack on them instead of on a larger system. Much criticism of Captain Marvel as a character comes from the sexism that doesn’t exist in other MCU characters.

People don’t say about Iron Man, Star-Lord, or Doctor Strange that they don’t like her or that she is too rude. She has much power, but so do the Hulk and Thor, and that’s never held against them. Even though some of the criticism of the movie Captain Marvel is fair, a lot of it comes from a strong dislike of the lead actress, Brie Larson. However, it is important to remember that this is a loud minority. This is shown by the fact that Captain Marvel made $1 billion worldwide at the box office. A movie doesn’t make $1 billion if people don’t like it or the main character, and there is a lot of excitement for The Marvels, which will bring together Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel.

Joker (DCEU)

Heath Ledger’s Joker is one of the most beloved movie characters ever, so anyone who tried to play him after him would have had a hard time. However, Jared Leto’s Joker in the DCEU’s Suicide Squad might be the biggest flop ever. Even if you ignore the troubling claims that Leto behaved badly on set in the name of method acting, this version of the Joker is the worst.

Leto does a terrible job playing the Joker; his laugh is one of the worst. Even though the design was interesting in theory, it didn’t work at all. It was so bad that when Leto played the role again in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, he had a new look. Even though he does a slightly better job in that movie, it could be better and still could be better. Even though fans may miss a lot of the DCEU and want to see some parts of it in the DCU, it’s safe to say that no one wants Leto’s Joker to come back.

Sam Witwicky (Transformers)

Another character that people hate that Shia LaBeouf played. In the first three Transformers movies, Sam Witwicky is the main person. In the first movie, he’s a likable, if a little annoying, teen. In the sequels, he’s almost made to be annoying on purpose. In the second movie, he wants to live a normal life without Bumblebee. In the third movie, though, he is angry that jobs don’t just come to him, and he has to work hard to get them. He wants a normal life when it suits him, but he wants everything to be done for him when it doesn’t. He only pays attention to the Transformers when they can help him.

Sam is also controlling with his two girlfriends, Mikela Barnes (Megan Fox) and Carly Spencer (Rosie Hungtinton-Whiteley), even though they are both ways out of his league. Sam didn’t come back for the fourth movie, and it looked like he died off-screen in the fifth movie, but no one seemed to care much.

The Predalien

The Predalien

After the end of Alien vs. Predator, many people were excited about a creature that was a mix of both species. This creature was called the Predalien. The movie Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem was a big disappointment because it was boring, poorly lit, and no one liked it. Everyone might not hate the Predalien itself, but the movie about it and the way the idea was carried out probably ruined this character for good. The idea never really lives up to the hype because it needs to be clarified what makes the Prealien different from all the other Xenomorphs.

Jar Jar Binks (Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace)

Jar Jar Binks (Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace)

Jar Jar Binks is only impressive from a technical point of view. He was the first fully formed CGI character to use the now-standard mocap technique, and he is a long-lasting sign that Star Wars is ending. With his fake rasta accent and long ears that looked like dreadlocks, the Gungan could also be seen as a racist stereotype. All of this was made worse by the fact that he was so important to the plot of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and that great Jedi like Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan had to look after this idiot.

Jar Jar Bink’s role was cut down a lot in the sequels, and he has been in few Star Wars movies since. Star Wars fans hated Jar Jar Binks too much, to the point where actor Ahmed Best thought about killing himself because of the bullying he got. Best is still around, which is good, and he was just cast as the important Jedi Master Kelleran-Beq in Jedi Temple Challenge and The Mandalorian. Let it be a reminder that if a character is bad, it’s not the actor’s fault, and it’s not okay to bother the performer.
