The Naif Arab University opens a seminar in Cairo on how to address issues related to terrorism

The scientific seminar “The Role of Television and Radio Program Producers and How to Address Issues Related to Terrorism and National Security in the Media”, organized by the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences under its work program for the year 2022 AD, in collaboration with the Media and Communication Sector – Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information during the period from 28 to 30 November at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, in the presence of experts in the field of media and the fight against terrorism of 15 Arab countries, the Center for Political and Strategic Studies, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Imam Muhammad bin Saud University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

At the opening ceremony, Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al-Harfash, Vice-Dean for External Relations of Naif University, explained that the seminar is organized in implementation of Arab security strategies and plans, including the plan of media Arabs for security awareness and crime prevention, and the interim plans for the provisions of the Arab Strategy to Combat Terrorism approved by the Arab Interior Ministerial Council. The scope of the strategic partnership between institutions of joint Arab action under the aegis of the Arab League, as well as the continuous cooperation with the secretarial technical sector of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information, within which many activities have been organized in the home country and abroad, where the university has the status as an observer member in the Arab Council of Ministers of Information, which awarded Arabs the university Recently developed a media strategy to combat terrorism and extremism.

He stressed that the seminar aims to identify terrorism and national security issues in the media and to address new variables in making radio and television content and adapting it while presenting it across new ones media digital, as well as developing the skills of the participants of television and radio program producers in addressing terrorism issues and reviewing programs of modern technology through which content is created, and is also concerned with highlighting the quality of programs that serve to moderation and address terrorism issues, clarifying the importance of international partnerships in address terrorism issues, as well as discuss appropriate mechanisms to support cooperation in matter of security media.

Al-Harfash pointed out that i media Specialized security forces are a science imposed by developments in organized crime models to integrate with the efforts of all media, social, educational and religious civil society institutions to combat and prevent these criminal phenomena.

Al-Harfash expressed the hope that these efforts will help push for greater attention to quality and its scientific, technical and media requirements for the development of media and gods media of security in the Arab countries, and the need for the institutions of media adopt the concept of (safety is everyone’s responsibility) and include it in their results in a high quality technical form, and work on the success of the strategies of the media Arabs regarding i mediasecurity, cultural and intellectual developments, as well as the importance of coordination between the Arab world’s security services and the authorities of media competent so that i media adhere to the rules and legislation in matter of publication and publish legal material, regulations and decisions necessary to prosecute i media who incite crime and corruption and spread malicious rumors.

For his part, the Head of the Media and Communication Sector of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, praised the important and important role played by the Naif Arab University for decades for Security Sciences in the field of counter-terrorism through its research and work programs, emphasizing that the seminar is within the framework of the implementation of the relevant decisions of the Arab summits. The link and the decision of the Arab Council of Information Ministers in its session no. cooperation between the Arab League and the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, which recently brought the contribution of Naif University to update the Arab media strategy to fight terrorism and extremism to make it more appropriate to the developments of the times.

Then the Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for the Gulf Cooperation Council States, Judge Dr. Hatem Ali, delivered a speech in to which he thanked, on behalf of the United Nations, the League of Arab States and the strategic partner, Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, for organizing the seminar, which addresses one of the most important issues on the world stage.

The opening session of the seminar witnessed a visual presentation by the university, dealing with its more than 50-year journey and its contributions to support the joint Arab security action system.

So, the jobs of prime Working sessions began with a paper presented by the Dean of the College of Information and Communication University Imam Muhammad bin Saud Al-Amir, Professor Dr. Major General of Arab Interior Ministers Osama Khalaf on “The Role of the Arab Security Average in coordination with radio and television program producers to address terrorism and security concerns”.

The second session discussed the working papers of Prof. Dr. Fadel Belbeish of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences on “Media Framing of Terrorism by Audiovisual Media: Pitfalls, Social Responsibility, Treatment and Solutions”. Radio and Television, Mr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Qaht presented a paper entitled “Treatment by media radio and television broadcasters of terrorism and national security issues and methods for developing them”

In the next two days, the seminar will pass in reviews the working papers with the participation of experts and researchers dealing with “tackling the use of the Internet and media in the fight against terrorism and introduce the new global program to prevent and combat terrorism”, “dealing with media material issued by terrorist organizations: precautions for their use”, and “media”. Audiovisual media and national security issues: in the search for a balance between security needs and freedom of media”, and control of media terminology when it comes to the activities of terrorist groups and the development of the “capabilities of multimedia content creators in the new media and their role in the fight against terrorism” and “the methodology of digital content as a method of addressing issues related to terrorism” and “an analytical reading of the activity of terrorist organizations in Middle East through assessments by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the United Nations Security Council.

Interestingly, the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, on the basis of its being the scientific body of the Arab Interior Ministerial Council and the body in charge of implementing the scientific side of Arab security strategies, seeks through its academic, training and research programs and scientific activities to translate in tangible reality this interest in the topic of security of media and its role in the fight against terrorism. It helps to strengthen the concept of intellectual security, which is one of the priorities of the university’s programs. The university was the first to adopt the concept of “means of security” and the first to state it. He has worked and is working to consolidate it through his scientific and educational activities. The university’s work program consistently includes many video security topics media and intellectual security and counter-terrorism, as well as through its academic programs with the aim of qualifying specialists in this field, has also contributed to enriching the Arabic specialized library with many researches and studies addressing the problem of media of security in the Arab world according to a methodology media objective and balanced in an effort to qualify specialists in a field that is gaining more and more importance in our time.

Within the scope of media and their role in crime prevention and safety promotion in its overall concept, the university has delivered through its faculties 99 master’s and doctoral dissertations, held 19 scientific meetings and conferences, organized 29 training programs and 15 conferences, in addition to publishing 37 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 120 research and articles through its scientific and media periodicals, it has also participated in 11 regional and international events in this field.
