New travel restrictions in The United States on entered southern Africa effect, as the Biden administration attempts to respond to concerns over the Omicron variant.
Biden’s government is restricting travel from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique and Malawi.
Biden signed the official proclamation friday die the travel limited of die “physically present” in the countries during the “14 day period prior to their entry” of attempted entry in the United States”, starting at one minute past midnight on Monday morning.
The proclamation includes a list of the ones die are exempt from the new restrictions, including US citizens, lawful permanent residents, and non-citizens who are the husbands of burgers of permanent residents.
The director of the national institutes of Health emphasized on Sunday that the newly appeared Covid-19 variant “should double vaccination efforts and other mitigation strategies”, saying that although much is unknown over the variant, action should now be taken to avoid “a situation die makes this even worse.”
“It certainly isn’t good news. we do not know yet how a lot of of an impact this will have. It should redouble our efforts to use the tools die we have, namely vaccinations and boosters, and to become sure we get die to the rest of the world, also, what the US is doing more than any other country,” NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins told CNN’s Dana Bash on “Stands of the Union.”
