The players who have scored the most goals in Champions League history

The Champions League is the continent’s premier event for fans and players alike, but being one of the best players in tournament history is exclusive to very few elite players.

Looking back, you will immediately think of players like Zinedine Zidane, Andrea Pirlo, Kakà, Andres Iniesta, Clarence Seedorf and Steven Gerrard.

Or maybe you want to keep things contemporary and instead focus on modern day greats like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

While each of the stars mentioned above is better at touching football, there is one player who has outdone them all and that’s Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski, 33, overtakes Messi and Ronaldo, second and third respectively in the number of goals in 100 games of the continental championship, and the top three sit apart from the rest of the group, such as Thierry Henry, Raul and Karim Benzema.

Below you can see the full list of players who have scored the most goal in 100 Champions League matches:

10. Arjen Robben (29), top scorer

9. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (39)

8. Thomas Muller (42)

7. Thierry Henry (46)

6. Andrei Shevchenko (48)

5. Raul González (51)

4. Karim Benzema (53)

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (64)

2. Lionel Messi (77)

1. Robert Lewandowski (81)

However, the 13 goal difference between Messi and Ronaldo is far more significant than fans of the Portuguese star might be interested in admitting.

Either way, Lewandowski outshines the gold duo Messi and Ronaldo, and if he takes the title of best in the world at the end of the Ballon d’Or, it will probably be more than deserved.
