The policeman’s assailant in Brussels … was on the terrorist list

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday that the man who stabbed a policeman to death Thursday night in Brussels is a former prisoner of common law and was on the list of the Belgian body “Occam” in charge of analyzing the terrorist threat.

The same source stated that the suspect, Yassin M., born in 1990 in Brussels, attacked two police officers with a knife in their autokilling one, while the other was injured in the arm and his condition is not dangerous, according to AFP.

He also added who the assailant was in treatment in hospital after he was shot in response to his attack.

The scene of many attacks

It is noteworthy that since 2016, year in where Belgium has witnessed terrorist attacks (32 deaths on 22 March), this country has been the scene of numerous attacks on soldiers and police officers.

The latest attack considered “terrorist” took place in Liège (east) on May 29, 2018, when Benjamin Hermann, then 31, shot two policemen and a student, then was shot and killed by the forces of the order.

Also on 25 August 2017, a Somali man, around 30, attacked soldiers in the center of Brussels with a knife, slightly wounding one. Then the attacker was also shot dead.

On 6 August 2016 an Algerian resident in Belgium attacked two policewomen with a machete in front of the Charleroi police station (south), wounding them in the face and neck. Then the attacker was hit. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack the next day.
