The president of the Italian European Parliament David Sassoli dies

The President of the European Parliament David Sassoli died at dawn on Tuesday at the dawn of 65 years in a hospital in his native Italy, where he was in care, announced its spokesperson.

Roberto Coelho stated in a tweet on Twitter that “David Sassoli died on 11 January at 01:15 in the oncology reference center in Aviano, in Italy, where it was in cure “from the end of December.

“The place and time of the funeral will be announced in the next few hours,” he added.

Coelho had announced on Monday afternoon that Sassoli was hospitalized in hospital since December 26 “for serious complications caused by a defect in the immune system”, noting that the president of the European Parliament had subsequently canceled all his official activities.

Sassoli, previously suffering from leukemia, was hospitalized in hospital in late September for pneumonia that kept him out of Parliament for several weeks.

Sassoli entered the political fray through the media portal, in as anchor for the news of his country, and in 2019 he was elected President of the European Parliament for two and a half years, that is half of the five-year term of office.

Although his term as head of Parliament was renewable at the end of this month, he had previously announced that he would not be running for a second term.

Next Tuesday, the European Parliament will hold a session to elect a new president who will succeed Sassoli.
