Many gamers are still determining what will happen to present properties because Motorsport Games is constantly altering and threatening to sue. NASCAR 23 is one such game.
After just releasing a 2022 update to NASCAR 21 last year, the studio plans to release NASCAR 23 as the sequel to NASCAR 21: Ignition. Many crew members have since relocated to work on the upcoming IndyCar game, which is scheduled for release in the spring of 2023. This has caused uncertainty regarding NASCAR 23.
Someone inquired about what it meant for NASCAR 23 during a recent meeting. The response was that they needed clarification because the game was still in the design stage.
When questioned about the lack of designs, it was said there once were, but the situation changed within the business.
They said that the project was now being constructed on the backs of KartKraft and IndyCar due to the departure of the principal designer and team changes.
One current employee tells Insider Gaming that the dedicated NASCAR development team currently sits in the single digits. Moreover, they believe NASCAR will only see a release this year.
Will NASCAR 23 be Released?
Another source speculated that if it does come, it will likely be a game built similar to IndyCar. Still, models would be swapped along with other changes to replicate the NASCAR experience.
Based on the latest product timeline from Motorsport Games, NASCAR 23 is scheduled to be launched in “mid-2023”. That would place it at a June or July release. With the game still in the designing stage in January, it raises questions about what will ultimately happen with the title.
The same person who claimed the lead designer had quit contrasted the current situation to what transpired with the NASCAR 22 upgrade last year.
They noted that NASCAR 23 “feels similar to last year with ’22 when they chose to make it a DLC, which was originally going to be paid.” Then it changed to a free update approximately a month before the announcement and release.
