The Roblox Company Exploiting Children for Profit: Parental Reports Raise Concerns

The Roblox Company Exploits Children for Profit, Parents Allege

The Roblox company exploits children for profit, according to a collective of parents, reports Bloomberg. The title, with over 65 millions of active players, is accused of violating the OCCA (the act relating to the control of crime organized in the United States) and interacting with third-party websites “to profit from gambling”.

Indeed, some gambling sites allow their users to log in with a Roblox account and convert their Robux (Roblox currency) into credits. These credits can then be used to bet in virtual casinos. If the player wins, the winnings are transferred to Roblox, and the game charges a 30% commission.

HAS cause of these practices, even minors can bet on gambling sites. “Children, who previously could not access the funds needed to participate, now collectively have billions of Robux,” explain the complainants, Rachel Colvin and Danielle Sass. They also state that there are not enough age verifications on these sites. “Roblox monitors and logs each of these illegal transactions, but does nothing to prevent them,” they continue. According to the outlet, more than half of Roblox players were 12 or younger in 2020.

Roblox’s Response

The Roblox company responded to these allegations: “These are third-party sites that have no legal affiliation with Roblox. These actors are illegally using our intellectual property and brand,” the firm explained. The group also promised that it would continue to be vigilant to protect children. However, the lawsuit cites a claim by the owners of RBXFlip (an online gambling company) that 7 billion Robux worth over 70 million dollars were wagered in 2021.
