The Russian Army: We are committed to the armistice despite the Ukrainian bombing

On Saturday, the Russian army reaffirmed its commitment until the end of the day to the unilateral ceasefire announced by President Vladimir Putin in occasion of Christmas, according to the Eastern calendar, despite the fire of Ukrainian artillery.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in its daily report that “despite artillery shelling by Ukrainian forces on populated areas and on Russian positions, Russian forces will continue to implement the announced ceasefire until 24:00 (21:00 GMT )”, according to AFP.

Repulsed a series of attacks

He also added that in the past 24 hours, Russian forces have repulsed a series of attacks launched by the Ukrainian army in eastern Ukraine, killing dozens of its soldiers.

In the city of Chasiv Yar, south of the city of Bakhmut, in front line, the sound of heavy artillery fire was heard for most of the morning hours.

On the other hand, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced on Saturday that Russia carried out a rocket attack and fired 20 rounds of rocket launchers in the past 24 hours.

Decline the offer

Interestingly, Putin had ordered his forces on Friday to unilaterally cease fire for a period of 36 hours for the celebrations.

However, Ukraine rejected Moscow’s ceasefire offer, describing it as a “slapstick ploy” aimed at giving Russian forces a chance to rest and rearm, according to Reuters.

And he added that he would continue to try to recapture lands controlled by Moscow.
