The Saudi Football Association announces the launch of the first edition of the Women’s League

RIYADH: The Saudi Football Association announced today, Saturday, the launch of the first edition of the Saudi Women’s Football League, in a step that falls within the time frame established by the federation as part of the women’s football support program since 2017. The season in course will take place in two stages through the Regions League in its first stage, with the participation of 16 teams, and its matches will take place in three cities, Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, with six teams from each region (except Dammam, four teams) playing in a two-round championship system. The top three places in Riyadh and Jeddah and the first and second places in Dammam will qualify for the Kingdom Final Championship, to be held early next year in Jeddah at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, to be held in a match knockout system. For his part, the chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Federation, Yasser bin Hassan Al-Mishal, indicated that this announcement is an important moment in the march of the Federation, stressing that the launch of the first official league in the Kingdom was one of the objectives of the Federation in occasion of the inauguration of a special department for women’s football. Al-Mishal added in statements posted by the Saudi Federation on its website web today, Saturday: “Today we live in this moment, which was achieved thanks to God and then to the unlimited support of our wise leadership for all sectors, in particularly in the football sector “. Al-Mishal explained that the preparation of all the rules and regulations for the championship has been completed, underlining the union’s willingness to implement and respect them given the importance of this edition in the path of Saudi women’s football, wishing success to all teams participating in the tournament. Saudi Federation Board Member, Director of Women’s Football Department, Lamia bin Bahian, expressed her “thanks and gratitude to the wise leadership for the unlimited support and attention enjoyed by women’s football.” Bin Bahyan said: “The moment we are living today cannot be described as the dream of the Saudi Women’s League becoming a reality. Women’s football reaches the highest level.” He added: “We have been working from day one in the women’s soccer department, which started under the supervision of Ms. Adwaa Al-Arifi, who made a great and influential effort to complete the training phase of the women’s first league. in particular, and support women’s football in general. “The list of sixteen club participants from the three regions includes Al-Tahadi, Sama, Al-Himma, Al-Sarham Al-Zarqa, Al-Yamama (Central), Al-Asifah, Jeddah Eagles, Ittihad Al-Quwa, Flaming Ball, Al-Leith Al-Abyad (western), Al-Sharqiah, Al-Wala’a, Al-Waha and Al-Nisour Union (eastern).
