The Saudi government approves the Kingdom’s accession to the global commitment on methane

The Saudi government has approved the Kingdom’s membership in the Global Pledge Initiative on methane, according to the Saudi news agency, “SPA”.

This initiative to reduce global methane emissions was launched at the COP 26 summit in Glasgow and has More than 100 countries representing 70% of the global economy have signed this pledge.

In its session today, Tuesday, the Council of Ministers considered that the launch of commercial development work for unconventional gas at the Al-Jafoura field in the eastern province is an essential element for the achievement of many of the objectives of the (Vision of Kingdom 2030), and a continuation of the support, empowerment and support that the energy sector receives from the state and its efforts for economic development and diversification by leveraging the comparative advantages of the Kingdom, strengthening its position as a leader in the global market energy and his record in environmental protection and sustainability.

The Council expressed its satisfaction with the gradual recovery of the Kingdom’s economy since the middle of last year, and stronger questyear, and for the recording of positive growth rates in its various sectors, thanks to the realistic and responsible policies and measures adopted by the state in tackling the Corona virus pandemic and in limiting its humanitarian, financial and economic repercussions. .

The Council of Ministers followed up on developments in the pandemic and continued evaluation of preventive measures and measures taken to preserve public health in the Kingdom, in the light of developments in the epidemiological situation globally, with the emergence of a mutated strain of the virus in a number of countries and by monitoring the transmission of infected people to other countries.

The Council was briefed on the items on the agenda, including the items the Shura Council participated in its studio, as well as the conclusions of the Economic and Development Council, the Political and Security Affairs Council, the General Committee of the Council of Ministers, and in this regard the Council of Experts in within the Council of Ministers.

The Council ended up authorizing the Minister of Energy – or his representative – to discuss with the French side a draft cooperation agreement between the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the government of the French Republic in the field of energy, to sign it, and then send the final signed copy, to complete the regulatory procedures.

The board also decided to approve a headquarters agreement between the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) regarding the organization of the union office.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technologies – or his representative – has been authorized to discuss with the French side a draft memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the General Secretariat for Digital Transformation and Electronic Communications of the French Republic in the field of digital innovation and emerging technologies.
