The Security Council votes on a draft humanitarian ceasefire for the distribution of vaccines

The United Nations Security Council is voting on a draft resolution prepared by the UK and calls on all parties to armed conflict to immediately enter into a firm, comprehensive and lasting humanitarian ceasefire to enable the distribution of coronavirus vaccines.

It is planned to announce the results of the vote on Friday, while the decision will require the approval of 9 members and no objection from any of the permanent members of the council.

Approval of the draft is an important test of cooperation between China and the new US administration at the United Nations.

The Council also expressed concerns about the ongoing violence, enforced disappearances and arms smuggling.

The resolution also stressed the need for United Nations officials to arrive promptly to inspect and maintain the safer oil reservoir and hold the Houthis responsible for the environmental and humanitarian risks arising from their failure to comply with United Nations demands would.

The council urged that the Houthi militias urgently need to facilitate unconditional and safe access by United Nations experts in order to carry out the task of assessing and repairing the tanker without delay.
