The Sims Movie in the Works: EA Franchise to Get Feature Film Adaptation by LuckyChap Productions

Exciting news for Simmers! A feature film adaptation of The Sims franchise by Electronic Arts is currently in the works.

The Hollywood Reporter recently shared that the film will be produced by LuckyChap, the company owned by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerly, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr. Joining them are Roy Lee (known for Lego movies) and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment.

Kate Herron, the director of Loki season one, is set to helm this Sims adaptation, bringing her unique style to the beloved game series.

The Sims, a popular life simulation video game series, made its debut in 2000 and has since had four mainline releases along with various spin-offs and expansions.

The Sims 4, released in 2014, has been a huge success, generating over $1 billion in revenue within five years. The game switched to a free-to-play model in October 2022, attracting over 70 million players.

Excitingly, EA recently announced their next Sims game, codenamed ‘Project Rene’, in October 2022. This new game will feature solo and multiplayer gameplay and will be available for free download on all supported devices, including mobile.

CEO Andrew Wilson shared last September that EA plans to focus more on their biggest online franchises like EA Sports FC, Apex Legends, and The Sims. They see these games as having massive online communities with the potential for exponential growth.
