A Madrid court sentenced Bayern Munich and France defender Lucas Hernandez to six months in prison for violating a court ruling after being convicted of rape against his wife in 2017.
A court document released Wednesday said an appeal by Hernandez, 25, to a Madrid criminal court against a previous suspended prison sentence for challenging the court’s ruling, was dismissed.
The document added that the appeal was dismissed because Hernandez had had two previous criminal convictions, both related to the incident that occurred in February 2017.
He was ordered to appear in court in Madrid on October 19 and has ten days to go in prison.
The French international was sentenced to 31 days of civil service for assaulting his then-girlfriend and current wife in February 2017, when he was an Atletico Madrid player.
The court issued a ruling banning him from staying within 500 meters of his girlfriend.
Hernandez was arrested in June 2017 after violating the court’s decision after arriving in Madrid with his wife after their wedding and honeymoon.
Hernandez made his Atletico debut in 2014, before moving to Bayern Munich in 2019 for € 80m.
He participated in 29 matches with the French national team, winning the 2018 World Cup and lifting the 2021 European Nations Cup last Sunday.
