Perera, in His letter to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said he was holding die Time for right for him too step aside and pave die way for die younger harvest.
The 32-year-old, who represented Sri Lanka in six Tests, 166 ODIs and 84 T20s, are expected to be retained playing franchise cricket around die world.
“I am proud in the fact that I could represent Sri Lanka in seven cricket World Championships and be a Contributing Member of die T20 World Championship 2014 win against India in Bangladesh. Easily the highlight of My life, “said Perera in his letter to SLC.
SLC recognized Perera’s contribution to the success of the national team.
“Thisara was a brilliant all-rounder, who contributed immensely as player to Sri Lankan cricket and played a role in something of die wonderful moments of grilling of the country, “said SLC CEO Ashley De Silva in an explanation.
