The trial of Neymar for irregularities in his transfer to Barcelona

Madrid: the star Brazilian Neymar will go in judgment next October, due to alleged irregularities in the transfer process to Barcelona’s Spanish football team in 2013, according to a judicial source on Wednesday. Neymar and former Barcelona presidents Sandro Russell and Josep Maria Bartomeu will be tried on charges of “corruption” in the agreement to sign the current forward of the club French Paris Saint-Germain from her ex club Brazilian Santos in 2013. The trial will run from 17 to 31 October. The case was opened on the basis of a complaint filed by the Brazilian group “DIS”, which held part of the player’s rights, after having considered themselves harmed by the transfer to club Catalan. An investigation into the case began in January 2014 after a contradiction was found in some of the documents requested by the authorities. Barcelona initially agreed to pay 57.1 million euros (40 million to the player’s family and 17.1 to his ex club Santos), in exchange of its services, but according to the calculations of the Spanish judiciary the value of the deal amounted to at least 83 million. And the DIS group, which received 6 million from the amount paid to club Brazilian, felt that Barcelona and Neymar agreed to hide the true value of this deal. The prosecutor asked for a two-year prison sentence for Neymar. The player told the judge that he came in Spain only to play football and to trust his father, his agent. Neymar moved from Barcelona to Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017, with a deal worth € 222 million, and made him the most expensive player in the world. (AFP)
