The Turkish president puts in warn Greece from continuing its “provocations”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan put in Guard Greece today, Sunday, from continuing what it called its “provocations” in the Aegean Sea.

“If Greece keeps moving in the Aegean Sea, Turkey will do what is necessary,” Erdogan said in a comment reported by the Anadolu agency.

He also added: “We might be surprised”, considering that Ankara has “no disagreements” with Athens in the Aegean Sea, in which the two countries contend for sovereignty over its islands.

On Friday, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said Turkey should reduce tension with his country through dialogue to resolve the dispute between the two countries on the basis of international law, without the threat of war.

This happened after the statements of the Turkish president, in to which he stated that his country would not “stand by” if Greece continued what he called “the arming” of the Aegean islands.

Relational tension

Relations between NATO allies and neighbors have long been tense, with the two sides divided over a number of issues, including territorial claims in the Aegean Sea and energy exploration rights in the eastern Mediterranean.

The two countries have come to the brink of war three times in the last half-century.
