The Ukrainian Football Association announces the resumption of the championship in August despite the war

Kyiv: On Sunday, the Ukrainian Football Association announced its intention to resume league competition next August, despite the Russian war against Ukraine. In statements to the Associated Press, the president of the Federation Andrei Pavelko said that the decision to resume the competition, suspended on February 24, was taken together with President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Associated Press reported that Pavelko also spoke with the presidents of the International Football Association (FIFA) and the European Football Association (UEFA) to find a safe way to hold Ukrainian national teams on his soil. “I spoke to President Zelensky about how important comfort is (for people), everyone from children to adults is focused on the war and receives information on the deaths and effects of the war every day,” Pavelko added. Pavelko said that football has great power that can bring the Ukrainian people back in able to believe in the future. (Dpa)
