The UN Security Council strongly condemns the attack on a mosque in western Afghanistan

The United Nations Security Council strongly condemned the recent attack that targeted a mosque in the western Afghan city of Herat, killing at least 18 people and injuring 23 others.

In a statement released today, Council members stressed the need to hold the perpetrators, organizers, funders and sponsors of these attacks accountable and bring them to justice, urging all states, in compliance with their obligations under international law and the relevant Security Council deliberations, to actively cooperate with all relevant authorities in this regard.

The Council reaffirmed the need for all States to combat threats to the pace and international security caused by armed actions.
