The UN Security Council welcomes the extension of the armistice in Yemen

Members of the United Nations Security Council welcomed the extension of the truce in Yemen for another two months, noting that the truce represented the most important opportunity for the pace and the protection of civilians in Yemen.

In a statement today, they said the armistice provided a stable basis for the advancement of talks on the economic and security tracks, as well as an opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions and complete on the political path.

They expressed the aspiration that the extension of the truce could help achieve a comprehensive solution to the Yemeni crisis and support initiatives for a political solution in so as to preserve the unity and independence of Yemen and preserve the capabilities of the Yemeni people and their aspirations for security, stability and prosperity.

In their statement, they commended the efforts of the Yemeni government in reaching an extension of the truce, appreciating the efforts of the regional partners and the need for their continued support.
