The Yemeni presidency stresses the need to lift the Houthi siege of Taiz

On Saturday, the Yemeni Presidential Council stressed the need to lift the siege of the Iranian-backed Houthi militia on Taiz and all Yemeni regions and cities.

This took place during a council meeting in the temporary capital of Aden, led by Rashad Al-Alimi, dedicated to discussing agenda items in the political, military, security, economic and service aspects, according to the agency. official Yemeni press (Saba).

The Yemeni Presidential Council affirmed its support for the international efforts led by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to establish the pace and end the suffering of the Yemenis.

He also renewed his “adherence to the humanitarian truce”, stressing “the need to urgently lift the Houthi siege on the city of Taiz and all Yemeni cities”.

The UN armistice agreement, entered in force in early April, it called for the opening of crossings and roads in the besieged city of Taiz, as well as other governorates for a period of two months, a priority of the armistice.

Political parties and members of the Taiz governorate have expressed their refusal to bypass the opening of the main roads to and from the city by opening secondary roads that do not lead to relieving the suffering of the besieged citizens for seven years.

The Council for the Coordination of Trade Unions and Civil Society Organizations in Taiz Governorate also called on the UN envoy, “Hans Grundberg”, to open land ports and end the siege imposed on the city by the militia. Houthi supported by Iran, for more than seven years.
