These were the best-selling games on Steam in 2019

It’s the end of another year and Valve has once again told the world which games have sold the most on Steam in the last 12 months. Steam’s Best of 2019 event has broken down some of the platform’s best-selling new and recurring games, the most played games, and the most popular games released early this year. It has also put most of them up for sale.

If you’ve looked at this list in recent years, some of the games on the bestseller list won’t come as a big surprise to you. Games like Grand Theft Auto 5, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds and Rainbow Six: Siege are at the top of the charts. One of the most surprising best sellers of the year is Destiny 2, which only came on the platform in October. It is also worth noting that these bestsellers are measured by gross revenue this year. Because of this, there are some free titles on the list.

As for new games, there have been a number of titles this year. Fall releases such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection landed at the top of the list along with Red Dead Redemption 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. But the first successes of the year, like Resident Evil 2 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, could not be overlooked. Smaller games like Remnant: From the Ashes and Mordhau also appeared as some of the top games of the year.

The best-selling early access games in 2019 go through just about every genre you can imagine. Competing shooters such as Battalion 1944, Ring of Elysium and Hunt: Showdown all appear. But also a few building and discovery games like Space Engineers, Astroneer, My Time at Portia and Oxygen Not Included. The survival game Green Hell, strategic map-based dungeon crawler Slay the Spire, Beat Saber and PC Building Simulator complete the content for early access.
