This is the deep Road Barrier dive you didn’t know you needed
We all love technology, and I don’t mean the strange perpetual motion of Illuminati machines; rather, I mean the type of technology we see every day but are unaware of. Road barriers are an excellent example of this.
Road barriers aren’t pretty, but they’re necessary. Every year, they save a large number of lives. Even if they appear to be dull concrete walls or filthy corrugated metal bolted to chipped wood, road barriers result from a lot of technology.
Climbing in the driver’s seat
This is why I found Andrew Lam’s YouTube video so endearing. It clearly defines the various barriers and their relative advantages and disadvantages. He discusses concepts such as clear zones and crash costs. Also, different types of crash isolators are often used – my favorite is the barrels filled with water or sand thought up by racing driver John Fitch, alias Fitch barriers.
