Monty Don took to social media today to share a garden update with his fans. The Gardeners’ World star was inundated with messages after sharing a picture of his box hedges getting cut.
The 65-year-old informed his 902,000 followers that the job needed to be done in dry conditions in order to protect the hedge from box blight.
He said the dry weather gave the plant time to heal.
Monty’s social media snap captured a man in a hard hat trimming the vibrant green hedge in the sunshine.
“Rob is cutting our remaining box hedges whilst it remains dry,” he captioned the post.

“Need a run of dry weather so cuts can heal before damp weather encourages box blight fungus to enter the wounds,” Monty went on to explain.
Many took to the comments section of his post to share their thoughts, with many thanking Monty for his informative post.
Others were amused to see another gardener in Longmeadow.
“Aaaahh I didn’t know that, thanks Monty,” one follower remarked.

“We thought you did it all by yourself,” a sixth amused user wrote, followed by a laughing emoji.
Earlier this year, Monty’s garden was “ravaged” by box blight and he was forced to dig up his hedges.
He later burnt them to control the spread of the disease.
Box blight is caused by two different types of fungi and leaves the hedges with brown leaves and bare patches.
Recalling their former glory, Monty previously told fans: “There was a time when our box hedging was one of the best things about the garden – especially in winter.
“But Box blight has ravaged it and we have removed a lot already.”
Despite “mourning” their loss, he later said that it was a good opportunity to start a new chapter in the garden.
Fans are often delighted to see pictures on the transformation on the picture-sharing site in addition to the BBC Two show.
