Tonali’s final goal gives Milan a 2-1 victory over Verona

ROME: Sandro Tonali scored a goal in the final giving to the champions in charge AC Milan a 2-1 victory over Verona in Serie A Sunday. The visiting team advanced with an own goal by Miguel Veloso of Verona after turning Rafael Leao’s cross in the 9th minute into their own goal. Milan striker Olivier Giroud had the chance to score the second goal after two minutes, after Brahim Diaz’s pass, but his shot missed the goal. Verona deserved the equalizer in the 19th minute when Koray Gunter hit a weak ball that changed direction on AC Milan defender Matteo Gabbia and entered goalkeeper Ciprien Tataroshanu. The pace of the match was reduced at the end of the first half, in how much it seemed that the two teams were waiting for an opportunity to launch a counterattack instead of controlling the game. Aiden Hrostic came close to scoring for the hosts two minutes after half-time, but his close-range shot went over the post. Goalkeeper Lorenzo Montepio brilliantly parried substitute Ante Rebic in the 49th minute. Verona came close to scoring in the 56th minute when an unmarked Roberto Piccoli header hit the frame while Gunther struck high. Milan secured the victory in the 81st minute when Rebic passed the ball to Tonali alone inside thearea penalty and had no difficulty in overcoming goalkeeper Montepo. Milan are third with 23 points, three points behind leaders Napoli after ten rounds. Verona remained in relegation zone with five points and is in 18th place. (Reuters)
