Injuries continued to accumulate for the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night in New Jersey.
Hours after announcing that Ilya Mikheyev would lose months after surgery to repair his wrist that had been cut from a skate in the Leafs game against the New Jersey Devils, the team revealed that Jake Muzzin would come out weekly with a broken foot.
Sportsnet said the injury occurred in a blocked shot by Devils defenseman P.K. Subban in the second period. Muzzin fell on the ice but remained in the game for the next person. Then he left the game and went to the box to serve the two-month delay of the game’s penalty where it was obviously unpleasant.
Muzzin’s blocking shot came just one minute and 27 seconds into the second period – but he played 18 more shifts in the game, ending with nearly 21 minutes of ice. which was the third for the Toronto defenders in the game. According to Luke Fox of Sportsnet, he left the Prudential Center without shoes and in his dress shoes.
He now joins Trevor Moore (concussion), Andreas Johnsson (leg) and Mikheyev on the shelf. Martin Marincin takes Muzzin’s lineup and Adam Brooks makes his NHL debut in a row with Frederik Gauthier and Jason Spezza against the New York Rangers on Saturday at Mikheyev’s.
