Troikas and Western countries: we support the formation of a civil government in Sudan

While Sudan prepares tomorrow for massive demonstrations to demand a return to the democratic path in Sudan, after months of political differences between the military and civilian components, the Troika countries (Norway, Great Britain and the United States), as well as other Western countries, reaffirmed their continued support for the formation of a transitional civilian government.

He underlined the urgency of an agreement between the political parties to “prevent a further deterioration of the economic and humanitarian situation.

No to violence

In a joint statement released today by the US Embassy in Khartoum on Twitter, on Monday, the European Union and 13 countries, including the United States, urged Sudanese parties to consider the national interest and to commit in constructive way in dialogue.

He also called on the security forces to refrain from using violence against demonstrators

Furthermore, he considered that the initiative put forward by the Bar on the draft transitional constitution represents a comprehensive and credible framework to guide the negotiations promoted by the tripartite mechanism (which includes the United Nations, the African Union and “IGAD”).

Interestingly, the UN envoy, Volker Peretz, and the commander of the armed forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, recently expressed hope that a consensus can soon be reached between civilians and military in the country.

However, figures from the Forces of Freedom and Change, the main civilian component of the opposition, later denied all the rumors of an imminent agreement between the civilians and the military component.

Interestingly, the country, which is one of the poorest countries in the world, has been bogged down since October 25, 2021, when the military imposed exceptional measures and dissolved the previous government. in political and economic stagnation, despite all international efforts to initiate dialogue sessions leading to a solution between the parties.
