#Roommates, we’re still here to continuously display # BlackGirlMagic – and we just got another one! Model Halima Aden has already made history in the fashion industry, but has now made further progress, as she is now the first black woman to wear a hijab on the cover of Essence magazine.
@Essence reports that Halima Aden, 22, who is Muslim, covers the January 2020 issue of Essence magazine, officially making her the first black woman in a hijab to adorn the cover of the magazine. The model signed by IMG first attracted national attention in 2016 when she was the first Miss Minnesota candidate to compete in hijab and burkini, she then continued with modeling in Kanye’s Yeezy fashion show. West and was featured on the covers of the two British magazines Vogue and Allure.
Earlier this year, Halima also broke through the barriers by becoming the first model in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit number to wear a hijab, burkini, and be completely covered. She was also the first Muslim queen to return from high school and the first Somali student senator in her college.
In an exclusive interview with Essence, Halima had this to say on her honor:
“It is important for me to be visible and do everything I can to let girls know that they don’t have to change who they are. want them to know that the world will meet them exactly where they are. “
