Tunisian Ons Jaber qualifies for the second round of the Cincinnati Tennis Championships

Cincinnati: American Jessica Pegula advanced to the second round of the Cincinnati Tennis Championships after defeating Italy’s Camila Giorgi 6/2, 6/2 Tuesday night in first round competition. Giorgi’s early exit from Cincinnati came just days after winning the Montreal title in Canada, at the expense of star Czech Karolina Pliskova. Tunisian star Ons Jaber qualified for the second round of the Cincinnati championship after defeating Estonian Annette Kontaveit 6/2, 4/6, 7/5 in first round competitions. In addition, the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the former world number one, qualified for the second round by defeating the Russian Lyudmila Samsonova 6/2, 6/3 in a match lasted one hour and nine minutes. Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic, gold medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, advanced to the second round by defeating Czech Marketa Vondrosova 6-3 7-5 in a match lasted an hour and 27 minutes. (Dpa)
