Turkish opposition: Erdogan’s palace costs us a million dollars a day

The Turkish opposition called President Recep Tayyip Erdogan “the most expensive president in the world” and said that his presidential palace complex in the capital Ankara cost the country more than 10 million lira (1.3 million US dollars) a day.

The Vice President of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), the largest opposition party, Engin Altai, said Erdogan was “the most expensive president in the world” and costs taxpayers millions of liras every year.

He added in a press conference at Parliament’s headquarters yesterday evening, Wednesday, “Do you know how much security guards have cost for the 2020 presidency? 263.6 million lira, the state and our people are spending money on it Protect our president, do not be afraid of Erdogan, the era of coups is over and is behind us. We will protect your life. “

A waste of public money

He also said: “Two helicopters and 110 vehicles accompany Erdogan every day on the 6-kilometer road between the presidential palace and the parliament building.”

He continued, “Is there any more waste of money than this? It is only 6 km away, only 6 km. You are already in the capital of the Republic of Turkey, 110 vehicles and two helicopters, what does that mean? Our President is charged and assigned . “

“A shipwrecked ship”

He also criticized the Turkish president for the high spending, saying that the presidential palace complex in the Bishtepe area of the capital Ankara costs more than 10 million lira a day. And he added: “In short, Turkey, which has faced shame in front of the world with such levels of inflation and its collapsing economic indicators, is a country that is installing the most expensive president in the world.”

Altai compared Turkey to a “sinking ship” because of government policy and said: “You cannot save a ship that was sunk with a human rights story, a folk song for a homemade airplane, a joke about a new constitution and a homemade tank.” “Referring to Erdogan’s promise and pledge to reform the country.

Discreet about its cost

It is noteworthy that the Turkish government has so far refused to disclose the cost of building the Presidential Palace and the amounts spent on its maintenance, while the opposition says the presidential complex built by Erdogan is larger than the White House in Washington, the Kremlin in Moscow and even the Versailles Palace near Paris.

Erdogan inaugurated the palace on August 30, 2014 after becoming president.

In March last year, a report by the Turkish Court of Auditors found that 4.5 million lira per day were spent in 2018 to cover the cost of the complex.
