UAE Exports LNG from Middle East to Germany: ADNOC Makes History

Emirati company ADNOC and German company RWE AG announced the delivery of the first batch of liquefied natural gas from Abu Dhabi to the floating gas receiving station Albachaven in the German city of Brunsbüttel.

The shipment of 137,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas produced at the ADNOC Gas facilities on Das Island in Abu Dhabi is the first shipment to be used in trial operation of the floating natural gas receiving terminal in Brunsbüttel, Germany.

It is also the first batch of LNG exported to Germany from the Middle East.

The delivery of this shipment follows the export of a trial shipment of low-carbon ammonia in October 2022.

Remarkably, the delivered batch of natural gas is enough to produce approximately 900 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, enough to power a quarter of a million German homes for a year.

Notably, the UAE and Germany signed a strategic partnership agreement in September 2022 to accelerate energy security and industrial growth. The agreement is aimed at accelerating the implementation of projects of mutual interest between the two countries in the areas of energy security, emission reduction and measures to combat climate change.

In accordance with the strategic partnership agreement, ADNOC signed a natural gas supply agreement with RWE, and according to the agreement, ADNOC allocated additional shipments of liquefied natural gas to its customers in Germany, which will be delivered in 2023.

ADNOC has also signed a number of agreements with German clients, including Esteg GmbH and Orbis AG, to export trial shipments of low-carbon ammonia, a hydrogen fuel that plays a key role in reducing emissions in hard-to-emission sectors. decrease.
