UAE Ministry of Climate Change: We hope climate neutrality initiative includes all greenhouse gases

Qais Al Suwaidi, Director of the Department of Climate Change at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in the UAE, said the UAE aspires to include all greenhouse gases in the UAE’s strategic initiative to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

In his speech in Al Arabiya, he added that the UAE has committed, under the Paris Agreement, to reduce its emissions by a quarter by 2030, through several plans that include a switch to clean energy. , nuclear and solar, improving energy efficiency by 20% by 2030.

He claimed that the UAE has in plans to shift the industrial sector to electricity in industry instead of relying on fossil fuels, as well as moving towards sustainable transport represented by projects such as the Etihad train and metro projects, as well as the waste sector which emits large emissions .


He said the UAE is eagerly awaiting the Glasgow Climate Change Summit to finalize the drafting of all Paris Accords, in in particular Article VI relating to international carbon markets, which still is in discussion so far, and are looking forward to ending the differences and negotiations that should have reached a solution two years ago.

He explained that the other side of the summit will be linked to the countries in via development, to support developed countries and to transfer skills and technologies to them.
