UK man arrested for massive Twitter attack targeting Biden, Musk in 2020

A man from the UK was arrested in Spain for its alleged role in a huge hack of high profile Twitter account that politicians targeted and celebrities in 2020, the United States Department of justice said Wednesday.

Spanish National Police arrested 22-year–Old Joseph O’Connor on behalf of US authorities. In a criminal complaint filed in Federal Court in San Francisco, O’Connor was also charged with computer intrusions related to acquisitions of TikTok and Snapchat user accounts, together with cyberstalking of a minor. O’Connor was charged with a total of 10 counts.

Hacker took over more of 130 accounts, including those of Joe Biden, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Kanye West and Barack Obama, in July 2020 is deceived people in sending more of $ 100,000 of Bitcoin to the addresses mentioned in the tweets. Widespread hacking raised doubts that Twitter was doing enough to protect security of its users forward of the US presidential election.

Twitter said the hack was the result of a “coordinated” social engineering attack” on its employees.

O’Connor is not the only person who has been arrested in connection with hacking. Last year, the Department of The justice presented 30 criminal charges against Florida teenager Graham Ivan Clark, who he was 17 at the time. Clark, accused of be the “mind” behind hacking Twitter, then pleaded guilty in exchange for a three-year prison phrase.

It wasn’t right away clear if O’Connor had legal representation.

two others people, Mason Sheppard resident in the UK and Nima Fazeli resident in Florida, they were Florida also arrested for their alleged role in hacking.
