“Today is a historic day. We are taking back Kherson,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
“At the moment, our defenders are on the outskirts of the city. But in cities have special military forces, “he explained.
“Our people. Ours. Kherson,” he added, along with a Ukrainian flag emoji and amateur city scenes showing Ukrainian troops gathering with the city’s residents.
One of the clips Zelensky posted that he said he filmed from Kherson showed Ukrainian soldiers saying they were from the “28th Brigade” as a crowd could be heard singing “VCU”, which stands for Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry previously wrote on Facebook: “Kherson returns to Ukrainian control. Units of Ukrainian forces enter in city ”, inviting the remaining Russian soldiers in city to “surrender immediately”.
