deny the allegations

It should be noted that shortly after the withdrawal of Russian forces from the vicinity of Kiev in late March to focus their operations on eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian authorities accused the Russians of killing hundreds of civilians in the city of Bucha, north of Kiev.

Russia has denied targeting civilians, describing these allegations as lies and fabrications with the aim of discrediting the Russian military.

However, international calls to investigate war crimes committed by Russian forces have increased for weeks in Ukrainian territory, both in the vicinity of the capital and Mariupol, in the south-east of the country, which some time ago fell into the hands of the Russians following a week-long siege.
