The United Nations on Thursday launched an appeal for more than $1 billion to help more than 5 million people in Turkey in the next three months following this month’s devastating earthquake that killed more than 36,000 people in the south of the country.
Martin Griffiths, the UN aid coordinator who visited Turkey last week, said the citizens were “suffering indescribable pain”.
“We have to be with them in their darkest hour and make sure they get the support they need,” she said.
