Unexpected data on unemployment in the US

The US Department of Labor said initial claims for benefits in the US for the week ended July 1 were up 4,000 from the previous week.

And the U.S. Department of Labor said in a statement Thursday that jobless claims rose by 4,000 to 235,000 in the week ended July 1, 2022, and remain at the highest level in six months.

The figures came against the expectations of analysts polled by the DailyFX portal, who had expected a decline to 230,000 requests after the previous week’s number of requests was at the level of 231,000 requests.

The average number of initial requests over the past four weeks has increased by 750,000 to 232,500.
