Manchester United beat Real Sociedad 1-0 today, Thursday, but the Spanish side have overtaken European Football League Group E on goal difference and will advance to the knockout stages with the English side. Alejandro Garnacho scored his first goal for United after 17 minutes when Cristiano Ronaldo sent him a beautiful pass under the goal and the 18-year-old put the ball in the corner of the net. Ronaldo has the opportunity to double after 42 minutes when he intercepted a defense pass in depth in the half of the Sociedad, but his ball passed just over the crossbar. Sociedad could equalize after a minute, but a long shot area by Pablo Marin was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper David de Gea. United needed another goal to beat Sociedad for goal difference, but the English side struggled to create real chances in the second half. The Sociedad is in lead the group with 15 points, the same as United. Moldova’s Sherif Tiraspol will play in the European Conference League after finishing third with a 1-0 home win over Omonoia Nicosia. Feyenoord beat Lazio 1-0 and classified in head to Group F after a thrilling final tournament that left all four teams in the group with eight points. Denmark’s Mityaland took second place after beating Austrian Sturm Graz 2-0, and Lazio will move up to the Conference League after finishing third. Group G leaders Freiburg drew 1-1 in Karabakh and French side Nantes will go to the knockout stage after a 2-0 win over Olympiacos. Group H leaders Fransvaros from Hungary qualified for the round of 16 despite losing 1-0 to Trabzonspor. Monaco will go to the knockout stage after defeating Belgrade’s Red Star 4-1 and occupying Trabzonspor in the qualifying spot to play in Conference League. (Reuters)
