US Army Commander: More than 100,000 Russian soldiers were killed and wounded in Ukraine

US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley said the Russian military has suffered estimated casualties in over 100,000 soldiers killed or wounded in Ukraine, noting that the Ukrainian military “probably” suffered a similar level of casualties in war.

Milley told the New York Economic Club on Wednesday: “You look at more than 100,000 Russian soldiers who have been killed and wounded. And the same thing.”
Most likely on the Ukrainian side. There is a lot of human suffering “.

He added that probably 40,000 Ukrainian civilians have also been killed in the conflict since the Russian offensive began in February.

On Wednesday, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered his forces to withdraw from the western bank of the Dnipro River and not face Ukrainian attacks near the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky headed the establishment of 4 military departments in Kherson, after Russia announced its withdrawal.

Observers have considered this to be one of the largest Russian withdrawals and could constitute a turning point in the war, which is now nearing the end of its ninth month.

General Sergei Surovkin, commander in head of the Russian forces, said in a televised speech that it was no longer possible to deliver supplies to the city of Kherson. He explained that he suggested establishing defensive lines on the east bank of the river.

The news came weeks after Ukraine’s advance on the city and Russia’s efforts to deport more than 100,000 of its residents.
