US Secretary of Transportation: Supply problems will continue next year

US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg warned on Sunday that current supply problems will persist “next year” and called for a long-term solution.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused disruptions in the global supply chain and subsequently delayed the arrival of goods and materials prime in the United States, leading to higher prices.

The problem is causing concern as Christmas approaches, with some experts predicting a massive shortage over the holidays. “A lot of the problems we have quest’year will continue into the next,’ the minister told CNN on Sunday morning.

He believes that the situation is particularly linked to the strong increase in demand, in one moment in the wheels of the economy are starting again in the country.

“The problem is that even though our ports are clearing more goods than ever before, quantities are arriving at the same time record of goods and our supply chain cannot keep up, “he explained.

As dozens of ships dock outside the major ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach on the west coast, in waiting to unload their cargo, the American secretary observed that “these two ports represent 40% of our container traffic”, underlining the measures taken to deal with this congestion.

“They are now working 24 hours a day,” he said. “It’s not easy to do something like this overnight, but it was a strong commitment.”

“We need to address the long-term problems that have left us vulnerable to these kinds of bottlenecks . This is why we need to approve the infrastructure plan,” proposed by President Joe Biden, he said.

This huge bill enjoys relative unanimity in Congress, but the left wing of the Democratic Party refuses to discuss it before securing a huge social spending plan that raises a lot of controversy.

These supply problems were a major topic at this week’s meeting of finance ministers of industrialized nations in Washington.
