Volkswagen brand plans to deliver more than 100,000 ID4 full-electric crossovers this year, with two-thirds of the vehicles destined for Europe and the remainder going to the U.S. and China.
The ID4 marks the beginning of the global rollout of VW Group’s mass-market MEB electric platform. It’s the second vehicle built on the platform after the ID3 hatchback, which went on sale in Europe in September.
ID4 sales will begin in Europe and China in March. U.S. deliveries will follow in the middle of the year.
“The ID4 will get even more people excited about e-mobility and thus give our electric offensive additional momentum,” said Klaus Zellmer, VW brand’s sales boss. “We hope to deliver well over 100,000 ID4s to customers this year alone,” he said in a statement.
VW has already received 17,000 orders for ID4 to date, Zellmer said.
In Germany, ID4 prices start at 38,450 euros ($46,290). The crossover is offered with a 52 kilowatt-hour battery pack with a range of up to 348 km (216 miles) under WLTP testing and a 77 kilowatt-hour battery with a 522 km range.
Initially the ID4 will be exported to the U.S. from VW’s factory in Zwickau, Germany, where the ID3 is also built. Production will begin at VW’s U.S. plant in Chattanooga in 2022. In China, the ID4 is being sold in two variants, the ID4 Crozz and ID4 X, built at factories in Anting and Foshan.
U.S. deliveries have been delayed as VW prioritizes European markets.
