US stocks closed in Strong rally Wednesday after the Federal Reserve announced a widely expected interest rate hike, the highest since 2000.
Stocks fluctuated after the announcement, then major indices stabilized and rose more than 2.5% on the heels of a press conference held by US Central Bank President Jerome Powell.
Yesterday the Federal Reserve raised the benchmark interest rate by half a percentage point.
He said he would start reducing the central bank’s $ 9 trillion asset portfolio next month in a further effort to reduce inflation.
According to preliminary data, the Standard & Poor’s 500 benchmark index closed the trading session on Wall Street, in rise of 124.97 points, or 2.99%, to 4,300.45 points, while the Nasdaq Composite index jumped 398.73 points, or 3.17%, to close at 12,962.49 points.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed in rise of 927.75 points, or 2.80%, to 34,056.54 points.
