“Wall Street” closes in upside. Energy and financials drive earnings

Wall Street has closed in bullish Tuesday after a volatile session in which all major equity indices have fluctuated between highs and lows as the market awaited the outcome of the Federal Reserve meeting.

Investors bought stocks in financial institutions and technology companies ahead of the expected US Central Bank announcement on Wednesday.

Eight of the 11 major sectors included in the benchmark S&P 500 index rose, with energy and financials stocks in head to earnings.

According to preliminary data, the “Standard & Poor’s 500” closed 20.04 points, or 0.48%, at 4,175.42 points, while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 25.99 points, or 0, 21%, closing the session at 12562.01 points.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 56.27 points, or 0.17%, to close at 33,117.77 points.

The Federal Reserve began its two-day monetary policy meeting yesterday.

Traders are expecting a 99.9% chance of a 50 basis point hike in interest rates at the close of today’s meeting.
