Warren signs up with Bernie in jabbing Biden on Social Security

The projects have been trying to move on from the conflict– which climaxed Tuesday night when each accused the other of calling them a “phony” on the stage instantly following the dispute– and are mostly not reacting to media concerns about the rift. The Social Security issue offers a possible chance for a liberal tag-team versus Biden as both senators have actually long battled to broaden the program and have rolled out intend on the project path.

Biden’s proposition on the project trail now calls for broadening Social Security however that is a shift from his days in the Senate when he and other moderate Democrats were open to reforms that would have cut the program in order to help stabilize the budget plan. The Biden project declined to comment.

Sanders and leading campaign aides have been aggressively trying to draw that contrast in recent days. “I think anyone who looks at the vice president’s record understands that time after time after time, Joe has discussed the requirement to cut Social Security,” Sanders stated. Campaign Manager Faiz Shakir was more pointed, issuing a statement that Biden “need to be sincere with citizens and stop attempting to doctor his own public record of regularly and repeatedly attempting to cut Social Security.”

Biden at first resisted responding to the attacks up until Saturday when he accused Sanders’ campaign of pressing a “doctored video” of him discussing supporting Paul Ryan’s Social Security cuts. In a current e-mail, the Sanders campaign did say that “Biden admired Paul Ryan for proposing cuts to Social Security and Medicare”– a claim which PolitiFact labeled “false.” There is no evidence, nevertheless, that the Sanders campaign modified any video. In an email to fans Sunday, the Biden project stated the Sanders project was “pushing around a stealthily edited video.”

Sanders attempted to argue Sunday that the 2018 video was sidetracking from the bigger argument between the two that stretched years in Congress. “I think there was a focus on one particular video,” Sanders informed The Washington Post

Warren’s comments come hours after she appeared to avoid a fight with Biden, simply indicating her own plan to increase month-to-month payments by $200 and telling press reporters “I think everybody’s record on Social Security is important.” Those remarks are in line with her usual method of not straight criticizing other Democrats but her short interview this afternoon recommends she might change it up on the concern– which she has highlighted in television advertisements in Iowa

Just before she got in a van with campaign aides Sunday, she included: “I’m clear where I am on this, and I think everybody’s records need to be taken a look at.”
