Washington: We do not regret the killing of large numbers of Russian soldiers at Makeivka

The White House announced on Thursday morning that the United States does not regret the killing of large numbers of Russian servicemen in a rocket attack carried out by the Ukrainian army on New Year’s Eve.

The US presidency’s statement came hours after Russia announced 89 of its soldiers were killed on New Year’s Eve in a Ukrainian rocket attack on them in Makivka in eastern Ukraine.

“There is no regret from the (US) administration. This is war. (Ukrainians) have been invaded and are fighting and defending themselves,” US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters. the White House.

Kirby did not comment on the death toll announced by the Russian Defense Ministry, while the Ukrainian military confirmed that the death toll was much higher than announced by Moscow, at 400 killed and 300 wounded.

A US National Security Council spokesman stressed that “Russian military personnel present on the territory of Ukraine are a legitimate target for any military action conducted by Ukraine. Point to the line.”

For Kirby, who was himself a senior US Navy officer, the Ukrainian missile attack targeted aarea that he was experiencing “heavy fighting. War is a bloody business”.

The US official declined to comment on reports from the Russian military that the Ukrainian attack was carried out by “HIMARS” missiles that Washington recently sent to Kiev.

But he said: ‘We are providing (the Ukrainians) and will continue to provide them with the equipment and assistance they need to defend themselves. And yes, we have provided them with HIMARS and we can provide more in future”.
