Ways to fight insomnia without taking pills

Dr. Elena Kolesnichenko, an expert in the science of sleep, stated that for REM sleep, you should not drink caffeinated drinks in the afternoon.

In a TV interview, the specialist points out that to combat insomnia, the lights in the bedroom should be turned off and quiet, and during the day there is nothing that contains caffeine, and also not smoking before bed.

“Unfortunately, these measures are not enough for chronic insomnia,” she says. “Therefore, additional measures need to be included in cognitive-behavioral therapy.”

She points out that there are several reasons that prevent a person from falling asleep quickly. First, it is the desire to control sleep.

“A person lies down and thinks about the importance of sleep now, but this does not happen, which mentally creates the problem of insomnia for himself. Adding to this problem is the stress hormone cortisol, in cases of anxiety,” she says.

And he adds that the second reason is that the bed is associated with insomnia, noting that as soon as a person lies down on the bed, thoughts and feelings appear that he will not be able to sleep on this bed.
“And even if he falls asleep after a while, his sleep will be shallow and intermittent,” she says.
